Government Shutdown in the U.S. Paralyzes Airports: What This Means for Travelers.
According to The Sun: Flight delays are increasing due to the ongoing government shutdown, with officials warning of potential flight cancellations if the situation does not improve soon.
Air traffic controllers and other key workers are suffering from frequent illnesses, causing some airports to completely halt operations.
Travelers may face longer delays and cancellations due to the prolonged government shutdown Getty Officials have warned that travel chaos will worsen if the shutdown continues GettyGovernment workers have been forced to work without pay since the chaos began last Wednesday, and now some are looking for side jobs to support themselves.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that if this alarming trend continues, he will have to cancel some flights.
“If we see problems at the aviation tower that hinder controllers from effectively managing airspace, we will reduce the tempo, and you will see more delays or perhaps cancellations,” he said at a press conference on Monday.
“I would rather take such measures than risk the lives of people on board,”
Travel chaos is already beginning to manifest at U.S. airports.
On Monday, Hollywood Burbank Airport in California was closed for nearly six hours due to a lack of air traffic controllers.
A similar situation occurred at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee on Tuesday, where controllers were asked for help from Memphis.
The staffing crisis delayed nearly all flights from Tennessee airport by two hours.
Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, and Houston have also made the growing list of cities facing delays.
Historically, airport situations worsen when a government shutdown drags on.

A BURDEN FOR POLICYMAKERS
Democrats and Republicans are blaming each other for this situation, as both parties have contributed to the government closure due to unresolved budget issues supported by the Republican Party.
California Governor Gavin Newsom commented on the chaos in Hollywood, ironically thanking Donald Trump for the situation.
“Burbank Airport did not have an air traffic controller from 4:15 PM to 10:00 PM due to YOUR government shutdown,”
Meanwhile, Trump stated that he is waiting for the Democratic side to come to the table for budget discussions before anything can be done.
“Democrats shut down the U.S. government in the middle of one of the most successful economic periods, with a record stock market existing in our country,”
“This will unfortunately impact many programs, services, and other elements of society that citizens rely on – and this should not have happened,” he noted on Truth Social.
Nick Daniels, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), urged lawmakers to act quickly, emphasizing that staffing issues existed long before the shutdown.
“You cannot expect other controllers to suddenly appear and take jobs. There simply aren’t enough people,”
“There are no paid overtime hours, and you need to be certified at this facility,”
Air traffic controllers and TSA workers expect pressure to increase next week when they miss a scheduled paycheck.
Daniels noted that the well-being of workers cannot sustain such stress for too long.
“It is absolutely unfair for an air traffic controller to endure the burden of ‘we'll see how long you can last while the political process plays out,’”
