In Wales, a former children’s camp is being transformed into an eco-resort: what will appear there.
According to The Sun: A former summer camp for children at a popular resort in Great Britain is being transformed into a recreational park with eco-friendly lodges by the water.
This once vibrant site, located in the beautiful countryside of Wales, fell into disrepair after closing during the pandemic. However, it is now set for a new life.
The children’s summer camp is being transformed into year-round resorts The new resort is located in the picturesque nature of South WalesThe former Royal Oak camp in Llangorse, which closed due to bankruptcy and the Covid pandemic, is now getting new plans.
The area by the lake will be transformed into a year-round resort that will include eco-friendly lodges, waterside cabins, and upgraded cottages.
Developers UK Country Parks, along with planning consultants Avison Young, have received permission to renovate the site, which is located just 100 meters from the water.
Three existing buildings will be repurposed into resort cottages, and the parking lot and on-site restaurant will also be updated.
This project promises to be a boost for the local economy, creating new jobs and attracting visitors in the off-season summer.
Vacationers will be able to enjoy a low environmental impact thanks to the use of sustainable materials and energy-saving elements, contributing to the preservation of the area's natural beauty.
David John, director of UK Country Parks, stated: “Our vision is to breathe new life into this beloved place, creating family resort offerings year-round to open access to the beauty of Llangorse Lake and the Brecon Beacons National Park.”
The transition from a camp used solely for school groups to a broader recreational use could attract more tourists, with the maximum number of visits limited to 12,000 nights per year to reduce environmental impact.
Family Activities
The area around Llangorse Lake is already famous for various activities such as horseback riding, archery, and water sports.
Kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling, and birdwatching attract guests eager to enjoy nature.
The lake itself has a long history connected to legends of the medieval crannog, a lake island believed to have housed the kings of Brecknock in the 9th and 10th centuries.
This natural body of water, the largest in South Wales, has traditionally been a popular spot for fishermen, travelers, and history enthusiasts.
Now, with a new look as a recreation spot, the former Royal Oak camp opens a new chapter that combines eco-friendly offerings with the timeless appeal of Welsh nature.
Expansion of the Resort Park
This site is not the only one hoping for new life.
The Unity Beach resort in Brean, near Burnham-on-Sea, plans to invest £10.2 million in an outdoor pool, lazy river, and lido area.
New elements, which require approval from the Somerset council, could open within six months, according to park information.
Another resort in England, located in an ancient forest, recently announced plans for expansion with new cabins, as well as a new pool and spa.
Additionally, in July one of the resorts in Great Britain announced major renovation plans worth £8.1 million, with new recreational cabins and camping.
Transforming the former camp into a modern recreational park reflects a broader trend toward the development of eco-tourism in Great Britain. This project can not only strengthen the local economy but also draw attention to the beauty and richness of natural resources, which are essential for environmental conservation.
