Ryanair cancels flights to a number of European cities: what to do for passengers.
According to The Sun: The airline Ryanair announced cuts to flights across Europe, including plans to close several routes that will affect millions of travelers.
This week, the budget airline reported the suspension of all flights from its base in Santiago as well as the reduction of routes to Tenerife (North) and Vigo.
AlamyEarlier this year, Ryanair also ended flights to several French cities, including Bergerac, Brive, and Strasbourg.
What does this mean for passengers?
Here is a detailed list of canceled flights and alternatives for traveling to these destinations.
Santiago de Compostela, Spain
Ryanair currently has two aircraft in Santiago de Compostela but has decided to close this base.
This will result in a loss of £149 million in investments in the Galicia region.
The airline operates direct flights from London Stansted to Santiago de Compostela and also has indirect routes from Birmingham.
Prices for flights from London start at £15 for a single ticket.
The last flight to Santiago will depart on March 27, 2026.
For those wishing to visit Santiago de Compostela, we recommend taking direct flights with Vueling from London Gatwick or Heathrow.
British Airways also offers direct flights from London Gatwick to Santiago.

All flights to Tenerife (North) will be canceled at the beginning of the winter season.
This part of Tenerife is famous for historic towns like La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz, as well as volcanic landscapes and tranquil beaches.
According to Skyscanner data, Ryanair has flights from Belfast International Airport and London Stansted to Tenerife (North).
However, it is already impossible to book flights to this destination despite the planned cancellations.
Travelers may consider flying to Tenerife (South) or using easyJet and Iberia with a transfer at another Spanish airport.
AlamyVigo, Spain
All Ryanair flights to Vigo will stop starting January 2026.
Vigo, known for its picturesque port, is considered the gateway to the Cíes Islands.
The company operates flights from London Stansted, with ticket prices starting at £16 each.
The last flight to Vigo is scheduled for January 4, 2026.
Unfortunately, Ryanair is the only airline that operates direct flights to this destination.
Other airlines such as Vueling operate flights with stops in Madrid.

Bergerac, France
At the end of October, Ryanair will cease flights to Bergerac airport, which could result in a loss of about 18,000 passengers.
This region is famous for its vineyards and has a charming old town with numerous museums, including the Wine Museum and the Tobacco Museum.
The airline operates flights from five UK airports to this French destination, including Bournemouth from £19.99 and London Stansted from £24.99.
Flights from Bournemouth will cease on October 23, from Edinburgh on October 25, from Bristol on September 29, from Liverpool on October 24, and from London Stansted on October 28.

Brive, France
Ryanair currently operates two flights a week from London Stansted to Brive, which is the largest municipality in the Corrèze region of France.
The town has Roman roots and is known for its market, which takes place every Saturday featuring local producers.

Strasbourg, France
This is disappointing news for fans of Christmas markets as direct flights from London Stansted to Strasbourg, known for its Christmas market, are also being canceled at the end of October.
According to Sun Travel, we could not find any flights between the UK and Strasbourg.
For those still wanting to visit the city, a flight to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (FKB) in Germany is possible, with prices from £14.99 for a single ticket, and the distance is approximately 45 minutes by bus to Strasbourg.
easyJet offers direct flights to Strasbourg from London Gatwick with prices from £28.99 one way.
There is also the option of waiting until November when easyJet will launch flights to Strasbourg from Manchester, tickets are already on sale with prices starting from £48.99 one way.
Ryanair also announced a reduction in the number of flights across Spain, particularly to Santander.
Last week, the airline explained that these cuts are related to increased fees for airlines imposed by Aena – the state airport operator in the country.
New Ryanair baggage rules
PASSENGERS traveling with Ryanair can now bring larger bags on board for free.
In July, it was announced that Ryanair had increased the size limits for bags from 40x20x25 cm to 40x30x20 cm, meaning an increase of 5 cm, and these new rules have already been implemented at airports across Europe.
From September 4, 2025, Ryanair stated that hand luggage will be available at each check-in area.
Passengers can now take a free bag measuring 40x30x20 cm on board.
That’s 5 cm more than the previous limit, and the overall volume increased from 20 liters to 24 liters.
This limit exceeds the standard free backpack in the EU, which is 40x30x15 cm by 33%.
Ryanair allows each passenger to take one free bag on board, but it must fit under the seat.
However, five European cities will receive new flights from Ryanair as part of the winter schedule.
You can also learn about the rules for using printed boarding passes, including for Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, and Jet2.
