Vance: Europe must bear the primary responsibility for Ukraine's security.
European countries will have to bear the bulk of the costs for ensuring Ukraine's security. This was stated by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance.
'I do not believe that the U.S. should bear this burden alone. We are ready to provide assistance if necessary to end the war and killings, but Europe must play the main role here. Regardless of how peace negotiations take place, Europeans will have to take on the lion's share of the responsibility. This is their continent and their security,' - said Jay D. Vance.
According to him, regardless of the format of these guarantees, Europeans will have to 'bear the lion's share of this burden.' Also, the day before, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would not deploy American troops in Ukraine but is ready to offer air support.
It should be noted that White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed on August 19 that Putin agreed to meet with Zelensky, adding that the White House is working with Russia and Ukraine to ensure that a bilateral meeting takes place. However, there has not yet been official confirmation of readiness for negotiations from Putin himself.
In his statement, Jay D. Vance emphasized the importance of Europe taking more responsibility for guaranteeing Ukraine's security. He noted that the U.S. is ready to provide assistance, but passing the burden of this issue onto European partners is an important step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
