Phone Call Between the Leaders of Ukraine and Latvia
According to UATV: On June 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, during which they reviewed cooperation under the Drone Deal program. Zelensky expressed gratitude to Latvia for its decision to make an additional contribution to the PURL initiative, stating:
“This is extremely important for us: every contribution means more lives saved from Russian attacks.” — Volodymyr Zelensky
The two leaders also addressed future collaboration within the SAFE program. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov took part in these discussions, while his Latvian counterpart, Raivis Mēlnis, was mentioned in the context of bilateral defense cooperation.
Zelensky added that Rinkēvičs congratulated Ukraine on the opening of its first negotiation cluster, underscoring the significance of military ties between the two nations.
This presidential call highlights the deepening partnership between Ukraine and Latvia, especially in security and defense. Given the ongoing conflict in the region, such alliances are critical for maintaining stability and protecting national interests. Latvia’s additional financial support for programs aiding Ukraine reflects its commitment to standing by its partner amid the war with Russia.
