Macron and Rutte discuss security guarantees for Ukraine: what the plan entails.
According to ТСН: The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced new efforts to provide Kyiv with reliable security guarantees.
He shared this information on the social media platform X.
“I met with Mark Rutte (NATO Secretary General) to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the progress of the 'Resolute' coalition. Starting in January in Paris, we will continue these efforts to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees, which are an important condition for achieving a durable and lasting peace,” he wrote.
In his post, Macron also reaffirmed steadfast support for Ukraine, both now and in the future.
It is worth noting that the 'Coalition of Willing' has developed security guarantees for Ukraine after the war ends. In particular, Europe and the USA commit to supporting the Ukrainian army, which should remain at a level of up to 800 thousand troops in peacetime to ensure Ukraine's territorial security.
Additionally, under the 'Resolute Coalition,' European countries with US support plan to create 'Multinational Forces of Ukraine' to restore the Armed Forces, protect airspace, and ensure maritime security, with possible operations on Ukrainian territory. The guarantees plan also includes a ceasefire monitoring mechanism, to be managed by the USA, aimed at preventing attacks, documenting violations, and responding to them.
President Donald Trump stated during a briefing at the White House that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, as this is a key factor for the successful implementation of a peace agreement.
At the same time, the American leader expressed the opinion that the current proposal for an agreement does not receive full support from Volodymyr Zelensky.
In response, Zelensky noted that he does not exclude the possibility of ending the war next year, but emphasized the importance of maintaining substantial stocks of weaponry as a guarantee of future security.
REFERENCE: Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is a key principle of collective defense in NATO: an armed attack against one member of the Alliance is considered an attack against all. This obligates each member country to provide assistance, including through the use of armed force, if deemed necessary to restore security, although specific actions are determined by each state.
Recent statements from international leaders highlight the growing support for Ukraine in the context of the war. Security guarantees from Europe and the USA are important for the further development of events and for creating conditions for future peace. Observing these efforts, it is clear that the issue of security will remain at the center of international politics, and countries will continue to work on ensuring stability in the region.
