The demand for train travel in Europe is growing among adults

According to The Sun: A quarter of Generation X and Boomers want to travel across Europe by train, compensating for what they couldn't do in their youth.

A survey of 2000 adults who had the opportunity to take a vacation showed that 46% of these generations are eager to set off on picturesque railway routes usually associated with younger travelers.

More than a third (37%) of respondents want the opportunity to visit several countries at once, while 22% value the feeling of adventure.

31% of respondents are happy with the idea of avoiding the hassles of flights and airports, while 30% seek flexibility in planning their travels.

Many participants of the study wish to visit lesser-known yet attractive places like Lucca in Italy, Zermatt in Switzerland, and San Sebastián in Spain.

“It is never too late to seek new experiences – rail travel proves that it is the perfect way for older generations to finally have those adventures they missed in their youth,” said Adria Biswas, Head of Global Money accounts at HSBC UK.

According to the survey, nearly a third (32%) of respondents are considering a multi-destination trip this year, visiting various corners of Europe or distant countries.

55% of study participants cite the diversity of landscapes – from beaches to mountains – as one of the main reasons for travel, while 47% are impressed by the variety of cultures and cuisines.

However, 34% noted that the need to pack and unpack luggage several times could deter them, and 32% are worried about possible travel delays or missed connections.

Among those who want to travel, 39% are confident that travel habits have changed between generations, while 20% consider European travel a “rite of passage” for the youth.

“It’s surprising how many amazing places are so close to Great Britain that many people have yet to visit,” added Adria Biswas.

Thus, railway tourism can become an attractive solution for many, proving that travel knows no age limits. The discovery of new routes and opportunities for planning trips can significantly change attitudes towards traveling among adults.
