The Head of the European Commission discussed with Trump the replacement of Russian LNG with American.
The Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen proposes that the United States supply more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the European Union instead of energy supplies from Russia. She noted that the common interests and the topic of LNG are important for discussion between the US and the EU. She also pointed out that Europe receives a lot of LNG through Russia and suggested replacing it with American LNG, which is cheaper and reduces energy prices. This issue may also be discussed against the backdrop of the trade balance deficit between the US and the EU.
Earlier it was reported that European companies did not negotiate the replacement of Russian gas imports through Ukraine with supplies from Azerbaijan. An agreement on gas supply is not yet reached, although companies from Hungary and Slovakia intended to sign a contract for gas supply from Azerbaijan. Ukraine also does not plan to extend the gas transit agreement with Russia after its expiration.
