Ongoing Crisis in Luhansk Region

According to UATV: In the Luhansk region, Russian occupying forces are refusing to evacuate children from the frontline town of Kreminna, instead using them as human shields. This was reported by Oleksiy Kharchenko, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration. Around one thousand children remain in the area, exposed to constant shelling by the Russian army.

The Luhansk region is under heavy bombardment as Russian troops employ artillery, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and attack drones. Despite the escalating danger, the occupation authorities in Kreminna are not only blocking child evacuations but also ignoring opportunities for summer recreation and respite. Kharchenko stated,

“The occupiers are using children as human shields.”

Public Awareness Campaign

In response to the worsening conflict, the FREEДОМ television channel has launched an information campaign called 'You Know – Speak Up!' aimed at raising awareness about children at risk of deportation. Those with information on deported children can use the 'I Am Here' channel or visit the FREEДОМ website, which offers guidance on how to help bring children back.

The situation in Kreminna remains critical, and the actions of the occupation authorities are causing alarm among local residents and the international community.

This case highlights the devastating effects of war, where children become victims of military operations and manipulation. The refusal of Russian occupiers to evacuate children underscores the severity of the humanitarian crisis in the region, which demands urgent attention from international organizations and human rights advocates. The 'You Know – Speak Up!' campaign seeks to draw attention to this issue and ensure the safety of children trapped in a perilous situation.
