Greta Thunberg sets sail for Gaza again

According to The Sun: Environmental activist Greta Thunberg is planning another yacht trip to Gaza after her first attempt was stopped. This time, the 22-year-old will set off with a new 'Freedom Flotilla', aiming to deliver aid, just 11 weeks after her deportation from the previous mission.

Thunberg faced criticism in Israel for her previous visit, where she was accused of antisemitism. She denied these accusations, stating:

“It is not antisemitic to say that we should not bomb people, that no one should live under occupation, that everyone should have the right to live in freedom and dignity, regardless of who they are.”

This time, the young woman is once again going to sea with a larger group of activists. While it's still unknown how many boats will leave Barcelona, they are expected to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and attempt to breach the Israeli blockade that has been in place since 2007. Hundreds of people from 44 countries are set to participate in this flotilla, which is considered the largest in history.

The first flotilla in June, known as the 'selfie yacht', set off from Italy but was halted by the Israeli military, which offered participants sandwiches.

Greta eagerly tried the food with her headscarf, after which she, along with 11 companions, was taken ashore and the Israeli forces seized the yacht. The girl managed to return to France under escort.

She describes her detention as a 'PR stunt' and claims it is yet another violation of human rights by Israel:

“This is yet another deliberate violation of rights that adds to the list of numerous other violations perpetrated by Israel.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that he instructed the investigative authorities to review the materials regarding the October 7 attacks on activists following their arrival.

In a speech for the new flotilla, Greta emphasized:

“This should not just be our task. Missions of this nature should not exist. It is the responsibility of countries, our governments, and elected representatives to act to uphold international law, prevent war crimes, and avert genocide.”

She also stated that she is leading her ship along with activists, the composition of whom has yet to be announced. Last time, among them were supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah. Brazilian activist Thiago Avila characterized this mission as unprecedented:

“This will be the largest solidarity mission in history, with more people and boats than all previous attempts combined.”

Earlier this month, the UN announced a famine in Gaza, blaming it on 'systematic obstruction' of humanitarian aid deliveries by Israel.

Greta Thunberg's journey to Gaza raises many questions and hopes on the international level. It is another stage of her fight for human rights and environmental issues, which undoubtedly draws attention to the situation in the region. Whether she will achieve her goal this time is yet to be seen, but it is clear that the topics she raises remain central to global attention.
