Money stolen from card, internet limit didn't work: PrivatBank shrugs.
A PrivatBank client reported that his money was stolen from the card and the internet limit didn't work.
This information is provided by the Minfin portal.
The victim shared a negative experience of using a PrivatBank card and urged other clients to be cautious. According to him, despite having set his daily internet payment limit to 6700 hryvnias, almost 11,900 hryvnias were withdrawn from his card in one day.
After a legitimate purchase of around 5400 hryvnias, unknown individuals made several unauthorized transactions totaling more than 6500 hryvnias.
Here's my situation within a day: 1. I set an internet payment limit of 6700 UAH. 2. I pay for a purchase in an online store of 5374 UAH 69 kop. That is, the internet limit will be 6700-5374 UAH 69 kop. = 1325 UAH 31 kop. 3. A few hours later, on the same day, 6502 UAH 49 kop disappeared from my card for internet payments. There were six payments totaling 6502 UAH 49 kop. 4. So, what about the internet limit? There was a daily limit of 6700 UAH, but 11,877 UAH 18 kop were spent on payments through websites.
The client returned to the bank, but the company could not explain why the limit does not work for fraudsters.
I call the bank, explain everything, we make a request, but the return (well, you understand, zero chances) and I ask, how is it that there is a limit of 6700 UAH per day, but I have 11,877 UAH 18 kop internet payments in a day, and the bank replies that this limit does not apply to payments made by fraudsters. After all, you can somehow pay on the internet, bypassing the internet limit. Well, you understand, the limit is for you, but fraudsters can clean out your card beyond the limit.
The victim urges other users not to keep large sums on PrivatBank cards and drew attention to possible issues with the unauthorized transaction protection system.
PrivatBank, in turn, explained that the limit for internet payments is applied only to risky sites. If the payment is made on a non-risky site, the limit does not apply.
The bank also noted that for internet payments, one needs to know the card details, such as the CVV code, expiration date, and card number. This information can be obtained by fraudsters from various sources, including surveillance cameras and insecure sites.
PrivatBank also emphasized that clients can seek help from the bank to dispute transactions in the international payment system.
Recall, PrivatBank showed the process of opening a "Prostir" card for pensions and benefits.
