Russia Withdraws from the Convention Against Torture: Orders from Russian Commanders Obtained.
According to inkorr.com: The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that it has obtained a recording in which Russian commanders give orders to torture Ukrainian prisoners of war. One of the commanders of the Russian army unit instructed to use torture, including 'nail tearing' on those he considers 'most disliked'. This is further evidence of war crimes committed by Russian military personnel, reports Glavkom.
The Russian government proposed denouncing the European Convention Against Torture, which would allow the country to operate outside the control of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. According to this convention, the Committee has the right to inspect the conditions of detention for individuals deprived of liberty. The Russian side aims to abolish this provision, as noted in the report by Glavkom.
Violation of International Standards
The Ukrainian military office has obtained a recording of Russian commanders' orders to torture Ukrainian prisoners of war. This indicates serious violations of international norms concerning the treatment of captives. Furthermore, Russia made the decision to withdraw from the European Convention Against Torture, causing significant outrage and concern among the international community.
These actions by Russia lead to new international discussions regarding human rights and the protection of individuals deprived of liberty. Currently, the global community is closely monitoring the situation, as such decisions could significantly impact the status and conditions of detention for prisoners of war in the conflict.
