Attack on July 26 Condemned as War Crime

According to Espreso.tv: The drone strike that hit an ATB supermarket in Chernihiv is the latest instance of Russian forces targeting civilian infrastructure during the war. Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) identified the perpetrators as servicemen from combat group No. 3 of the separate unmanned aviation brigade 'Kaskad' of the Russian Armed Forces. They launched a Geran-4 drone that struck the store, killing two people—including a 9-year-old child—and wounding 25 others.

How the Attack Unfolded

The drone was launched from a drone port in the settlement of Navlya, Bryansk Oblast. The operation was led by senior officer A.O. Sergunin. Debris from the Geran-4 fell on the ATB supermarket in the ZAZ district and also hit a service station. To handle the consequences, emergency services deployed 39 personnel and 12 pieces of equipment.

This case highlights the severe danger posed by drones in modern warfare and once again underscores the need for the international community to react to such aggressive acts.

In response, the global community should:

  • increase pressure on the aggressor state;
  • take steps to protect civilians in conflict zones.
