The family of the drug trafficking suspect Bella Kuli faces a huge fine

According to The Sun: The family of nineteen-year-old Bella Kuli from Britain, who was detained with drugs worth £200,000 in Georgia, now needs to raise £100,000 to secure her release from prison.

Bella was detained with a large amount of drugs after arriving from Thailand. She is being held in a harsh women's prison No. 5 in Georgia.

Bella's lawyer is working on a deal that will allow her to go free on the condition that this huge sum is paid.

Bella claims she was forced into drug trafficking by a Thai gang, who burned her with an iron and showed her videos of beheadings.

“Negotiations are nearing completion,” said Bella's lawyer Malkhaz Salakaia.

Sources in Georgia report that the prosecution is demanding about £100,000 for Bella's release.

The judge noted that Bella could be released as soon as the deal is confirmed, but the process is delayed due to the family's difficulty in raising the necessary amount.

Georgian lawyer Anna Putkaradze, who specializes in foreign cases, stated: 'If the prosecution estimates the fine based on the estimated value of drugs in the UK, I would value it at about £100,000.'

“Of course, there are many nuances in this case that could affect it,” she added.

Judge Giorgi Gelashvili denied Bella bail but assured the family that she would be brought back to court as soon as a deal was reached.

Bella's lawyer noted that “the higher the fine, the less time she will spend in prison.”

Bella's mother, Lianne Kennedy, expressed her outrage: “It's a huge amount for us,” she said.

The judge emphasized: “We care about Ms. Kuli's health and her child. Of course, the child should develop in a free environment.”

Bella claims she was forced into crime by a Thai gang, but prosecutors warn that they will contest her testimony.

At this moment, Bella is scheduled to return to court in October.

In recent months, there have been several arrests of British drug couriers, indicating a growing problem. Experts note that young Britons are becoming victims of brutal gangs that use them to transport drugs around the world.

Bella and her family are facing a difficult choice that could change their lives forever.
