Traditional Beach Holiday in Sandgate

According to The Sun: While the bright lights and sounds of slot machines bring excitement to the British coastline, sometimes you just want to relax on a classic beach.

Among the remnants of retro resorts, there are not many quiet beach towns, but thankfully, my nearest village by the sea is just that.

AlamySandgate is one of the few traditional seaside towns without slot machines and attractions. Most people head to Folkestone, but we are located in Sandgate.

Sandgate, located in Kent, is considerably quieter and less visited than neighboring Folkestone.

This is also the closest beach to me that can be reached on foot from Folkestone West station.

The coastline here is simple – there is only the café “The Boat House.”

This beach kiosk offers ice cream, fish sandwiches, and drinks, and nearby is a line of benches for relaxation.

However, don’t expect slot machines or a ferris wheel – that’s all you’ll find on the pebble beach.

Instead of games, you can watch brave surfers perform tricks and keep an eye on the seagulls battling for scraps on the pebbles.

The laid-back atmosphere of this coastline makes it special, so you will primarily be surrounded by locals.

I have never seen it crowded here, even at the height of summer.

And my favorite pub, “The Famous Ship Inn,” is right next to the beach.

It reopened in 2023 after changing owners and has become a cozy old-style pub where it’s easy to get lost trying to find the restroom, passing by helm wheels and vintage posters on the walls.

But if you head further into the back of the establishment, you can sit at a table with a sea view – the perfect spot, especially in autumn, to stay warm.

Their burgers and fish and chips are some of the best, and you’ll probably spot me here, trying to win a prize at the quiz night.

Another part of the beach is lined with colorful houses and private yacht clubs.

If you need anything else, you will have to go to the main street of Sandgate, but it’s just a few steps back from the beach.

This is where you will find shops – mostly with vintage home textiles and clothing, as well as bars and restaurants.

My favorite café is “Orchard Lane Coffee House,” which serves delicious coffee and vegan snacks.

Just be prepared to wait in line in the mornings on weekends when runners flock here.

Or visit “John Dory” wine bar, where friendly staff will help you choose a glass of wine and offer snacks with sausages.

Of course, there are also plenty of fish and chip shops and a few Nepalese eateries.

Even in the peak summer season, this is a beach where you can always find a spot.

In my opinion, it is one of the best beaches to visit in autumn – for a beautiful breezy walk along the promenade.

GettyThe beach also features the 15th-century Sandgate Castle, but it is not open to the public.

Sandgate is a unique place that captivates with its atmosphere of tranquility and simplicity. Perfect for those looking to escape the noisy resorts and enjoy the harmony of nature. The local cafés and restaurants offer delicious dishes, and the promenade invites for cozy walks.

This village leaves pleasant impressions, and regardless of the season, there is always a corner for relaxation. Sandgate is a unique refuge from the everyday for those seeking new experiences in the simplicity of beach life.
