Childhood at Burford Garden Centre

According to The Sun: Although it may not seem like the most interesting place for children at first glance, my childhood was spent in one of the most prestigious gardens in the UK.

Growing up in the Cotswolds, my local gardening center was Burford Garden Centre.

This store is famous for elite plants and trees, some of which can cost up to £7,000.

The center has been operating since 1975 and is still family-owned.

What Burford Garden Centre Offers

On an area of over 21,000 m², you will find not only a huge garden center that offers everything from flowers to trees priced up to £7,000.

There is also a bookstore, as well as stores with clothing, food, home items, and even works of art.

The shelves feature elite brands such as Barbour and Le Creuset.

In winter, it is recommended to visit the 'Bulb Markets' to stock up on flowers.

Don’t miss the cafe and bakery on the premises.

Cafe Glasshouse resembles a stylish European establishment with woven lampshades and palm trees.

Don’t forget to try the large scone, which was so delicious that we even ordered a few for my sister's wedding.

The center also hosts events, including embroidery classes, rare book courses, and 'fish mornings'.

But I especially enjoy visiting it during Christmas – the displays are impressive.

Visitors' Impressions

Here you can find hundreds of types of Christmas decorations, trees adorned with festive lights, and even grottoes.

Owner Nigel Johnson told the FT that when they opened 50 years ago, the Cotswolds was a “sleepy place”.
He added that they were inspired by France and wanted to bring “some theatre into it”.

It’s not just me who appreciates this place – Beyonce and Jay Z were reportedly spotted here this month.

Among other celebrities who have visited the center are Kate Moss and the Beckham family.

Visitors also confirm my impressions:

  • “This is my favorite garden center, it's like Harrods for gardens.”
  • “All other garden centers no longer look like Burford. We recommend visiting it before Christmas.”

And if you plan to explore Burford, I’ll share my tips.

Burford Garden Centre offers visitors a diverse range of products and services that cater to both gardening enthusiasts and those simply looking to enjoy family leisure. The Christmas displays, which change every year, have become a real tradition for many, attracting the attention of not only locals but also tourists. This place has become a symbol of calm family recreation and inspiring moments in the Cotswolds.
