Experienced traveler lost luggage: how to avoid their mistakes.
Adventure with lost luggage
According to The Sun: Despite having visited over 54 countries and traveling for more than ten years, I still found myself in a situation where I was left without a suitcase during a vacation.
I have visited over 50 countries, but I still make mistakes with my luggage. I always travel with hand luggage, but recently I had to check it in.Problems with luggage transportation
Usually, I try to avoid checking bags and pack everything in my hand luggage. However, on one of the domestic flights from San Jose to Panama, I was unlucky. The local airline imposed a strict hand luggage limit of 10 kg, while mine weighed 11 kg.
With regret, I conceded and handed my luggage to the airline staff. Only then did I realize my mistake.
Lesson not to forget
I always recommend my friends to leave contact details in their luggage in case it gets lost. It is important to have a phone number and name in the suitcase, and I often include a business card with the address. But during this trip, I forgot about it in a rush at the airport.
After 18 hours, when I returned to London, I realized that I had become one of many Britons who lost their luggage.
Waiting another 45 minutes for the last suitcase, I had to stand in line to report the lost luggage.
As I provided my information, I realized that I had described my luggage too broadly — I merely mentioned that it was "light blue and small." (Another tip — avoid black suitcases to prevent confusion with others).
“Do you have an AirTag in it?” — the airport staff asked.
I happily confirmed, and at that moment, I felt like a true traveler.
Next time I will definitely add a business card and check the battery.
Happy ending
Unfortunately, I forgot to check the battery in my AirTag, and the app did not notify me of the suitcase's location.
However, after a few days, my luggage returned to me. It turned out that the airline forgot to inform the baggage service that I had a suitcase, and it was left in San Jose.
This experience taught me a lesson, and I will definitely leave addresses and check batteries for the AirTag in the future.
Fortunately, the suitcase arrived after a few days, but I won’t repeat this mistake again.
This situation emphasized the importance of caution while traveling, especially in planning luggage transportation. Mistakes with luggage can happen even to seasoned travelers, so it is always wise to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances. Going forward, I will be more careful with my luggage and its contents.
