Madrid prepares for the F1 Grand Prix: what to visit in the Spanish capital.
According to The Sun: Madrid, the capital of Spain, retains its authenticity despite its popularity as a tourist destination.
With new hotels, renovated attractions, and two-hour flights, there is no reason not to visit this city.
San Isidro in the city centerWHY SHOULD YOU GO?
Next year, the Grand Prix will return to Madrid for the first time in 45 years.
The new Formula 1 track will run around the IFEMA exhibition center in the Barajas district.
Tickets will go on sale next week.
But this winter is also a perfect time to enjoy the city without the summer crowds and heat.
ARE THESE STREETS MADE FOR WALKING?
Madrid is often called one of the most walkable cities in Europe. There is also an extensive metro network if you need to get from place to place quickly.
However, exploring the city on foot means you can truly enjoy its beautiful neighborhoods, from the youthful Malasaña with its independent cafes and vintage shops to the historic Lavapiés with its unique street art.
IS THERE ANYTHING A MUST-SEE?
If you only have time for one attraction, it must be the Prado Museum.
This is one of three art museums that form Madrid's Golden Triangle of Art, along with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum.
With 100 rooms and more than 1,800 works, you can easily spend hours there exploring all three floors.
Among the famous artists whose works are featured are Goya, Velázquez, and Rubens.
Visit after 6 PM for free admission.
For live music, check out Sala Equis, which has the atmosphere of a secret garden with a bar.
Check their Instagram for the full repertoire or just enjoy the film screenings.
Or spend a Sunday morning exploring the weekly El Rastro flea market, where you can find cheap clothes, souvenirs, and trinkets for your suitcase.
WHERE TO EAT?
Hotel Montera Madrid
If you want to try a variety of dishes, head to Mercado de San Miguel.
Originally built in 1916, this covered market has over 30 stalls where you can find small pinchos (open sandwiches) priced from £1.30 to £2.60.
I wouldn't turn down a dozen pork croquettes and only regret not being able to try everything else.
Or join the locals at Pez for a 'little' piece of rich Spanish omelet and a beer for just a few euros.
It’s pretty tight in here, and you're likely to be standing at the bar, but it's worth it to enjoy the lively atmosphere.
DO YOU WANT SOMETHING FANCY?

Celso y Manolo offers a modern take on tapas.
They specialize in delicious tomato dishes, so be sure to order something from their tomato menu (the mango and tomato salad is incredibly fresh).
Meat lovers should try the hearty meat steak stuffed with cheese and ham, washed down with a glass of vermouth – only if you're ready for a siesta right after.

There are plenty of rooftop bars in the city, but El Cielo de Montera is probably one of the best.
Located on the roof of the Montera Madrid hotel, entry costs £8.60, which is credited to your bill, so you can try a few Aperol Spritz.
With red umbrellas and striped pink chairs, the bar looks more like a private club than just a bar, with incredible views of the skyline.
For something a little crazier, visit Salmon Guru with its neon signs and golden bar furniture.
They claim to have the best negroni in the city, and the wide and crazy menu will make choosing difficult (my strawberry and tequila option was highly recommended).
Their sister venue nearby is the complete opposite.
Viva Madrid is a traditional bar established in 1856, with tiled walls and dark wood ceilings.
There’s a hidden upper floor, so don’t worry if it gets busy inside.
Choose fantastic drinks and stay for the friendly bar staff.

For a budget option, we checked out the new easyHotel Madrid Alcala.
