India closed airports due to tense relations with Pakistan

India has suspended the operations of airports located near the border with Pakistan due to the deteriorating relations between the countries. According to Bloomberg, more than 25 airports are currently closed. The latest closure was a private runway in Mundra. The Indian government initially closed 16 airports but then expanded the list to emphasize the seriousness of the situation.

Cities where airports have been closed include Mundra, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, Shimla, Srinagar, Leh, Amritsar, Jamnagar, Jaisalmer, and Porbandar.

Interestingly, the largest private commercial port in India is based at the runway in Mundra, and access to the Reliance Industries Ltd. refinery is provided in Jamnagar. The airport in Bathinda, which has been closed, is also quite close to the refineries of Hindustan Petroleum Corp. and Mittal Energy Investment Pte.

After the threat of conflict, European airlines changed their flight routes, and United Airlines Holdings Inc. canceled flights to India due to additional fuel costs from increased burning on detoured routes.

In response to the attack from Pakistan,

India announced a military operation 'Sindur' aimed at terrorist groups. Airstrikes were carried out as part of this operation on Pakistani territory. The nights of May 8 witnessed the largest and longest aerial battle between India and Pakistan.
