Pensioner visits all 889 Wetherspoons pubs: how he did it and how much he spent.
David Bingham and his unusual journey to Wetherspoons pubs
According to The Sun: David Bingham, a pensioner and a big fan of Wetherspoons pubs, believes that his travels to 889 establishments of the chain have become a genuine 'secret mission' for him. Initially, he just wanted to visit his favorite pub, but his experience turned out to be much more unusual.
During his travels, David spent around £30,000 and visited all the establishments of the chain in the UK and Ireland. His favorite pub is the Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate, Kent.
A journey through all the pubs
Over four years, David managed to visit all 889 pubs, and his enthusiasm did not dwindle even after completing these travels. He continues to visit new establishments as they open in the chain.
David even traveled by cruises and planes to reach hard-to-access pubs. In his lifetime, he has consumed around 200,000 pints.
But what inspires him?
“Not bad for a guy who loves to go out for a pint,” says David.
His girlfriend, Una Cooper, 66, also became his companion on these journeys, although she rarely drinks herself.
Favorite establishments
David notes that Wetherspoons saves many historical buildings that he noticed during his visits. One of his favorite pubs is The Counting House in Glasgow, a former bank.
“Wetherspoons save so many iconic structures; their portfolio is amazing,” says David.
Technical details of the journey
To mark each pub, David drinks a pint in each establishment. Sometimes he had to return to certain pubs to avoid getting drunk. He documented his trips with photos on Google Maps and claims that his posts received over 78 million views.
Among his favorite pubs in Scotland is Caley Picture House in Edinburgh, which he prefers for its architecture and atmosphere.
Emotional finale
David admits that his emotions peaked when he visited the last pub on his list — The Flying Horse in 2023. He hopes to be able to visit Wetherspoons every day.
“It was a blast, but it’s probably not good for the liver,” David sums up.
David Bingham's journey reflects not only his love for pubs but also the ability to enjoy life in all its manifestations. His story is a wonderful example of how a hobby can turn into a true adventure, leaving a plethora of vivid impressions and unforgettable moments behind.
