Survival at Sea

According to The Sun: The rescue moment of the jet ski driver occurred after a three-day journey at sea, which began after an unsuccessful evening ride.

Lionel Ramirez Collado was trying to retrieve the jet ski that had broken away from his boat during a delay and found himself alone on the water.

The situation became complicated when the jet ski broke down, and strong winds and currents carried him into the Atlantic Ocean.

Lionel was spotted from the air approximately 48 hours after his friends reported him missing to authorities.

“He never reached our agreed meeting point,” his friends noted.

Miraculously, the young man was found on Wednesday afternoon, about 16 miles from shore.

The Collado family expressed outrage at the actions of the rescuers, believing their search was too close to the coast and not conducted at night.

Challenges of the Rescue Operation

Relatives emphasized that their fears were confirmed when Collado was found so far from shore.

This incident occurred only two months after another case where a diver swam nearly 100 miles from Morocco to Spain.

He was accidentally spotted by the crew of a merchant ship that arrived in Portugal, located 24 nautical miles from Caleta de Vélez on the Spanish coast.

After that, a rescue helicopter was dispatched for a dramatic rescue.

Despite signs of hypothermia, the diver remained in stable condition.

He told police that he was pulled into the sea while diving with friends and lost sight of them.

Thus, he drifted a distance of 96 miles at sea. Relatives believe the search methods should have been more effective.

Ultimately, he was transported back to shore on Wednesday afternoon.

This incident highlights the importance of proper organization of rescue operations, as even a single situation can lead to serious consequences. Proper training and quick response from rescue services can significantly change the outcome of events at sea.
