Reduction of Jet2's winter flight program

According to The Sun: Jet2 Airlines is cutting its winter program, resulting in the cancellation of around a thousand flights.

The budget carrier has announced a reduction in available seats for sale for this winter season by 200,000, bringing the total down to 5.6 million. This is due to a 'challenging market situation'.

In the airline's statement, it was noted that the most used aircraft is the Boeing 737-800, which seats 189 passengers. Therefore, 200,000 canceled seats will mean approximately 1,000 canceled flights.

Despite this, this number is still nine percent higher compared to the winter of 2024/2025.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, commented: 'Although we are currently operating in challenging conditions, we have a proven business model, a loyal customer base, a flexible approach to capacity management, and of course, our award-winning customer service.'
'We believe these factors provide a foundation for stable financial results this year and further profitable growth in the coming years.'

Regarding other statistics, the number of passengers on Jet2 package tours increased by two percent, although this is below the eight percent growth last year. The number of passengers on non-package flights increased by 17 percent.

The airline is optimistic about the winter season, hoping to 'maintain attractive prices so that our customers can enjoy their vacations'. Canceled flights and routes have not yet been announced.

The Jet2 website continues to sell flights to winter sunshine destinations such as Faro, Costa del Sol, Fuerteventura, Cyprus, and Turkey.

The airline is also targeting ski destinations like Geneva, Salzburg, and Chambery. One new winter route will be the flight to Krakow in Poland.

The new route will connect London Stansted with Krakow for the first time. Flights are scheduled from November 27 to December 21, twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Package tours can be found from £270 per person, which includes flights, hotels, and baggage.

Krakow is considered one of the cheapest cities in Europe, according to this year's Cheap Holiday Index Platform (CHIPS).

During the winter season, a popular Christmas market takes place in the Main Market Square here.
