Ukraine Urges EU to Unlock All Negotiation Clusters, Says Deputy PM.
Plea to Open EU Negotiation Clusters for Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, has called on the European Union to open all negotiation clusters for Ukraine, stressing that trust is essential to the accession process. He made the remarks during the YES Dinner Discussion in Gdańsk, emphasizing that the EU must demonstrate its genuine commitment to integrating Ukraine.
The first cluster was only opened after securing approval from all 27 EU member states. Kachka recently stated that Brussels aimed to open all six negotiation clusters by the end of July. However, on June 23, Hungary blocked the opening of the remaining five clusters for both Ukraine and the EU, creating a major obstacle to full integration.
Next Steps and Why Cluster Openings Matter
Fresh negotiations on the cluster openings are expected to resume next week. Kachka noted:
“We must open all clusters to show that the EU is serious about its promise that Ukraine will join the European Union.”This underscores the need for continued progress in Ukraine-EU relations and the importance of maintaining trust throughout the integration process.
Kachka's statement reflects the intensification of Ukrainian diplomacy regarding European integration, a top priority for Kyiv amid current challenges. Unlocking all negotiation clusters could mark a pivotal step in deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, while also reaffirming support from European partners. The uncertainty caused by Hungary's position highlights how crucial unity within the EU is for enlargement and the integration of new members.
