Canada prepares a large-scale response to possible US trade restrictions.

The Canadian government is preparing to impose tariffs on American imports worth up to 150 billion Canadian dollars to counteract the US. Public consultations are planned before implementing such measures.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau noted that Canada’s response will be decisive and powerful, although details are not disclosed due to the uncertainty of actions by the US. Canada plans to respond to trade restrictions in stages and may expand sanctions on American goods in the future.
The acute situation arose after US President Donald Trump announced the possible imposition of tariffs on Canadian goods. This is associated with his intention to strengthen border control to combat illegal immigration and fentanyl smuggling.
New trade restrictions could negatively impact relations between the US and Canada, which have a combined trade volume of over 900 billion dollars a year.
