Justin Pierre James Trudeau was born in Ottawa as the eldest son of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada. He graduated from High School at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from McGill University and a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of British Columbia. From 2002 to 2004, he studied Engineering at the Polytechnic School of Montreal, and in 2005-2006, he earned his Master's degree in Environmental Geography from McGill University.
In the early 2000s, he was involved in social research and taught French and Mathematics at West Point Grey Academy and Churchill High School in Vancouver. In 2004, he worked at the radio station CKAC.
Political Career.
He gained recognition through a moving speech at his father's funeral in 2000. Since 2008, he has been a member of the House of Commons in Quebec and was re-elected in the same district in the 2011 elections. On April 14, 2013, he was elected leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, receiving more than 80% of the votes from registered party members and supporters. Since November 2015, he has been the Prime Minister of Canada after his party won the parliamentary elections on October 19, 2015. Trudeau also heads the Ministry of Intergovernmental Relations and Youth Affairs.
The Trudeau cabinet was the first gender-balanced government in Canada's history (15 women and 15 men) and is also notable for its ethnic diversity. Trudeau was the second youngest Prime Minister in Canadian history after Joe Clark, assuming office a day before his 40th birthday in 1979.
Social Engagement.
After the death of his brother Michel in an avalanche, the Trudeau family launched a campaign for skier safety in 2000. In 2005, he opposed a proposed $100 million ban on zinc, as it threatened pollution of the South Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2006, along with Romeo Dallaire, he conducted a major action in Toronto to urge Canada to find a solution to the Darfur crisis.
In 2007, Trudeau played the role of Major Talbot Papineau in the CBC miniseries The Great War, which dealt with Canada's involvement in World War I, who fell in the Battle of Passchendaele. In 2012, he won a charity boxing match against Conservative Canadian Senator Patrick Brazeau.
Family.
His parents divorced when he was six years old. He has two brothers - Alexander (born 1973), a journalist and documentary filmmaker, and Michel, who died in a skiing accident at the age of 23.
Justin Trudeau married former television host and model Sophie Grégoire in 2005. The couple has three children: son Xavier James (born 2007), daughter Ella-Grace Margaret (born 2009), and son Adrian (born 2014).
In August 2023, Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire announced that they had made an agreement to live separately.
