Metro Construction on Vinohradar

According to Novyny.live: Residents of Kyiv are facing a prolonged wait for the completion of the Vinohradar metro extension, now projected to open in 2027. Construction work is currently underway, causing significant disruption to daily life in the neighborhood. The project operates from early morning until late at night, creating noise and inconvenience for locals.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s forecast that two new stations will be operational by 2027 offers a glimmer of hope, even as residents already grapple with negative impacts from the ongoing work. The closure of European Union Avenue—expected to last until December 1, 2026—complicates travel for both drivers and pedestrians. Many locals have voiced their concerns about the situation.

“The construction is making my life very difficult. There’s constant noise, dust, and dirt,” said Kristina, a Kyiv resident.

Some progress has been made: the right tunnel to the 'Syrets' station has been completed, along with parts of the ventilation systems. However, the 'Zahorivska' station was never finished due to the economic crisis of the mid-1990s. Residents are hoping for improvements in the construction zone.

“I wish they would improve the crossings through the construction area,” added Tetiana, another local resident.

Kyiv residents are prepared to wait another two years for the metro to open, believing the new stations will greatly enhance transportation in the area. Despite the current hardships, they remain optimistic that the final results will justify their patience.

Why Completing the Metro Matters

Finishing the Vinohradar metro extension is crucial for improving the city’s infrastructure, as the new stations could significantly reduce pressure on existing transport networks. At the same time, the difficulties faced by residents highlight the need to balance development with quality of life. It is essential for authorities to consider local feedback during such projects, ensuring that living conditions remain acceptable throughout the construction period.
