Over 3,200 Kyiv Apartment Buildings Remain Without Heating Amid Infrastructure Crisis.
Kyiv's Energy and Heating Supply Crisis
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv continues to face a severe crisis in electricity and heating supply due to extensive damage to its energy infrastructure. As of today, more than 3,200 multi-story residential buildings remain without heat. Despite the immense challenges, crews have managed to restore heating to approximately 800 buildings. To accelerate recovery efforts, an additional 160 repair teams have been mobilized. This situation is part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
Across the city, 124 generators are operating to provide partial electricity supply. Furthermore, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has established 91 assistance points across 68 locations. Power supply issues are also acute in the Dnipro and Desnianskyi districts, where over 40,000 customers have been left without electricity following the latest shelling. Ukrenergo, the national energy company, has implemented emergency power cuts across multiple regions of Ukraine.
Official Statements and Next Steps
City officials have expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing situation. Oleksiy Kuleba noted:
"The situation in Kyiv remains difficult, but we have managed to restore heating to about 800 buildings over the course of the day." - Oleksiy Kuleba
Denys Shmyhal added that 'the situation in the energy system remains extremely tense.' According to DTEK representatives, 'power is being switched on and off manually, depending on the state of the system at any given moment,' while Serhiy Kovalenko emphasized that 'emergency shutdowns are in effect, and scheduled outage timetables are not operating.'
Kateryna Pop also stated that 'the current trend does not yet favor the rapid restoration of ground electric transport.' The situation in the capital remains critical, and city authorities continue to work on restoring the damaged energy infrastructure.
The supply crisis in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions is a direct consequence of recent attacks that have targeted critical infrastructure. Authorities are actively deploying resources to restore services, but due to persistent attacks and systemic damage, the situation remains volatile. The government's ongoing actions, as well as public resilience in the face of these hardships, will be crucial for the stability of Ukraine's energy system as a whole.
