Kyiv Leaves Transformers Unprotected: Consequences Could Be Catastrophic

According to inkorr.com: The situation with street transformers in Kyiv remains critical, as they lack sufficient protection, despite the full-scale war lasting nearly four years. This problem was discussed by people's deputy and former Minister of Housing and Communal Services Oleksiy Kucherenko in an interview with the publication 'Telegraph'.

Insufficient Protection and Responsibility

'Street transformers are unprotected. I have complaints not so much against the leadership of 'Kyivteploenergo' as against the owner, against the city. Do they fully understand their responsibility? Is their budget being allocated properly?' Kucherenko emphasized.

The expert characterized the attack on Kyiv on October 10 as 'powerful' and noted that the air defense forces tried to shoot down as many enemy targets as possible, however, the adversary is improving its missile strike tactics. The main targets of the Russian attacks were energy infrastructure facilities, particularly transformers.

Questions Regarding the Protection of Facilities

'We see the consequences; ballistic missiles have been allowed through. At one facility, this led to very serious damage. But where drones were shot down, protection should have already been at an appropriate level, including these ground shelters. And I have a question: why haven't these shelters appeared in these 3.5 years?' asked the people's deputy.

Kucherenko also stated that there will likely be a deficit in electricity in Kyiv, which can be compensated for by a unified energy system, if there are no network problems. However, the expert emphasized that one of the generating stations has suffered serious damage.

'For now, it's not worth predicting that there will be no electricity in Kyiv. I think now the capital will be restoring facilities,' Kucherenko noted.

The problem of insufficient protection of street transformers in Kyiv remains urgent. In case of new attacks, they could become targets, so measures need to be taken to ensure the safety of energy supply to avoid negative consequences due to the lack of proper protection for important facilities.

In light of the ongoing conflict, strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Authorities and energy companies must take urgent measures to improve the situation in order to ensure the stability of electricity supply and the safety of the capital's residents.
