Officials Exposed for Embezzling Over 1 Million Hryvnias in Kyiv's 'Natalka' Park Renovation.
Officials of 'Kyivzelenbud' Exposed
According to Novyny.live: Officials from Kyiv's municipal enterprise 'Kyivzelenbud' have been exposed on suspicion of embezzling public funds during the reconstruction of the 'Natalka' park in the Obolon district. The investigation has revealed damages to the state budget exceeding 1 million hryvnias. A director of a private company has also been implicated for falsifying documentation related to the completed work.
These officials approved and paid for work that was, in fact, never performed. As a result, the head of the 'Kyivzelenbud' department is currently in custody, while the private company director has been placed under house arrest. Another department head has been subjected to a personal undertaking as a preventive measure. This case highlights ongoing challenges with corruption in Ukraine's public procurement sector.
Investigation and Searches
As part of the ongoing probe, searches were conducted on January 23, 2024, at the Finance Department of the Kyiv City State Administration. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the case to establish all the circumstances of the offense.
This situation underscores the critical need for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, particularly for infrastructure projects. Given the scale of the uncovered violations, it is likely that further investigations may reveal more instances of abuse within the municipal services sector. The probe could also contribute to improving mechanisms for controlling budgetary expenditures in Ukraine.
