China refused security guarantees for Ukraine, - Zelensky

According to FREEДOM: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that China will not be a guarantor of Ukraine's security. Beijing did not help Ukraine either during the occupation of Crimea by Russia or during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine will accept security guarantees only from countries that are willing to help, emphasized the head of the Ukrainian state.

The Russian Federation considers China as one of the possible guarantors of Ukraine's security, said Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov. Lavrov also noted that Russia must have a voice in matters of Kyiv's security. Later, Lavrov added that Russia does not mind if the guarantors of Ukraine's security become permanent members of the UN Security Council. That is the USA, the UK, France, as well as Russia itself and China. At the same time, at UN meetings, Moscow often uses its veto power to block any initiatives that may limit its aggressive actions in Ukraine or in other regions of the world.

'Soviet and modern Russian diplomacy are at the same level and have a very clear tactic - to demand the impossible and stand firm. According to Russian diplomats, when you demand the impossible and go to the end, then at some point someone will give in, even if not to all 'wants', at least to part of them. This is roughly what is happening now,' commented the director of the Security Sector Reform Agency, national security expert Viktor Yahun.

Director of the Chinese analytical center Zhu Junwei believes that Beijing is unlikely to try to play an important role in the future negotiations about security guarantees for Ukraine. Furthermore, there are different formats for such commitments, and it is not exactly clear what is understood by this word in the Kremlin. And the Chinese authorities have not made any statements on this topic at all.

'China supports all efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement of the issue. We are pleased to see that Russia and the USA have established contact to improve relations and promote political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. We hope that all interested parties will be able to timely join the peace negotiation process and achieve a fair, lasting, and mandatory peace agreement acceptable to all parties as soon as possible,' said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

Ukraine does not consider China as a possible guarantor of security after the war is over, reminds Zelensky. Beijing did not help stop this bloodshed from the very beginning, but on the contrary - opened the drone market for Russia. The head of state also emphasized that China did not take any actions when Russia occupied Crimea and began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

'That is why we do not need guarantees that do not help Ukraine now and did not help us at the moment when it was really needed after February 24,' emphasized Zelensky.

Kyiv's partners are actively working on security commitments for Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian state is confident that they should be similar to NATO's Article 5 on collective defense. Europe and the United States intend to provide Kyiv with such guarantees so that dictator Putin never tries to attack Ukraine again, emphasized NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky.

During a joint press conference, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not expect security guarantees from China due to its neutrality in the country's security affairs and the uncertainty regarding the situation in eastern Ukraine. There was also hope expressed that NATO and European partners would provide Ukraine with guarantees that would prevent possible aggressive actions by Russia in the future.
