Only 10% of Ukrainians believe in peace by 2026: results of a new survey.
According to ТСН: Ukrainians' forecasts regarding the end of the war are becoming increasingly cautious: only 10% believe in the possibility of peace before the beginning of 2026. At the same time, the level of resilience in society remains consistently high, and most citizens are willing to endure the war for as long as necessary.
This data became known through a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
Expectations for the end of the war
Only one in ten Ukrainians hopes for the end of the war before the beginning of 2026, whereas in September, 18% held such hopes. Another 16% of respondents believe that hostilities may cease at least in the first half of 2026 (compared to 15% in autumn). Therefore, about 25% of those surveyed expect the end of the war in the relatively near future.
In addition, 12% predict the completion of the war in the second half of 2026 — this figure has remained stable. Nearly one-third of respondents (29%) believe that the conflict will last until 2027 or longer, although in September, 32% held such a view.
There has also been a significant increase in those who cannot give a definite forecast: 33% compared to 23% previously.
Willingness to endure the war
Nevertheless, the majority of citizens — 62% — say that they are willing to endure the war for as long as necessary, and this figure has remained stable since September. Another 3% believe that they can withstand for about a year.
At the same time, 14% of respondents are willing to endure the war for only half a year or a few months — in September, 21% held this view. The proportion of those who could not answer this question has also increased: from 13% to 21%.
The nationwide survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology was conducted from November 26 to December 29, 2025. Using telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers in all government-controlled regions of Ukraine, 1001 respondents aged 18 and older were surveyed.
Attitude towards territorial integrity
It is worth noting that according to the KMIS survey, the majority of Ukrainians (53%) remain steadfast on the issue of territorial integrity, rejecting the possibility of any concessions to Russia before the beginning of 2026. The idea of 'freezing' the frontline without official concessions is supported by 40% of respondents, indicating a cautious search for ways to cease active hostilities while maintaining sovereignty.
These survey results reflect the resilient mood of Ukrainians in difficult times. Although hopes for a swift end to the war have diminished, the willingness to endure demonstrates the people's commitment to their country and the desire for peace. Such an attitude towards territorial integrity underscores national unity and the importance of sovereignty in the context of a prolonged conflict.
