Former US Envoy Kellogg's Forecast for Ukraine War's End, Given to NHK.
General Keith Kellogg's Assessment of the Ukraine War
According to TSN.ua: In an interview with Japan's NHK network, General Keith Kellogg, a former U.S. special envoy, stated that the war in Ukraine will end when Russian President Vladimir Putin realizes his country cannot achieve victory. Kellogg pointed to the severe damage Russia is suffering from international sanctions and estimated that its battlefield casualties—killed and seriously wounded—could range from 1.2 to 1.4 million personnel.
Potential for a Ceasefire
The General emphasized that a ceasefire could be arranged immediately if Ukraine and Russia agreed to freeze the conflict along the current front line. However, he added that it is Putin, not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is unwilling to stop the fighting. Kellogg further commented that Putin must come to understand he will not gain more Ukrainian territory.
President Zelenskyy has previously stated that ending the war is not a matter of personal sentiment, underscoring that peace is a legal instrument to stop the bloodshed. These remarks highlight the gravity of the situation and the critical need for conflict resolution.
General Kellogg's comments suggest the international community continues to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely and urges dialogue to achieve a peaceful settlement.
Subsequent actions by Russia and Ukraine, along with the global response, will be pivotal in shaping the conflict's trajectory and regional stability. As a key U.S. ally in the Indo-Pacific, Japan's public broadcaster featuring this analysis reflects widespread international concern over the war's prolonged impact.
