Strike on Kyiv: July 16

According to Espreso.tv: On July 16, at 12:47 AM, an enemy attack struck Kyiv, killing 2 people and wounding 6 others, among them a 16-year-old boy. While Ukraine's air defense proved effective—neutralizing 132 targets—incoming enemy missiles still caused tragic losses.

Details of the Attack

The Russian military carried out the assault using:

  • 8 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M and S-400)
  • 4 cruise missiles (Kh-22 and Kh-32)
  • 1 anti-radiation missile (Kh-31P)
  • 5 loitering munitions of the 'Banderol' type
  • 146 attack drones

As of 9:00 AM on July 16, air defense had shot down three Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 129 enemy drones.

In the Sviatoshyn district of the capital, a strike hit warehouse facilities, while in the Darnytskyi district, missile debris fell on non-residential land and into a non-residential building. The Kh-22 and Kh-32 cruise missiles failed to reach their targets.

Timur Tkachenko urged the public: 'Stay in safe places! The enemy is attacking the city with ballistic missiles!'

This attack serves as yet another reminder of the ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine, particularly in the capital. Despite the success of the air defense system—which helped reduce the number of direct hits—the loss of life remains unacceptable and deeply troubling for the public. Authorities continue to urge residents to follow safety measures and stay in protected shelters during air raid alerts.
