A record number of Ukrainians crossed the border: what caused the rush.
The passenger flow across the border of Ukraine increased to 150 thousand people per day
The number of people crossing the state border of Ukraine has significantly increased in the pre-Christmas period. The press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that over the last day more than 150 thousand people crossed the border, which is one of the highest indicators in recent years.
The largest increase is observed at the border crossing points with Poland. Despite the increase in the number of crossings, there was no significant excess of entry into Ukraine compared to exit: on average, 75 thousand people crossed the border in both directions.
The increased passenger flow leads to the formation of queues at the border.
Queues at the Ukrainian border before Christmas
In the lead-up to Christmas, on December 22, large queues formed at the border crossing points of Ukraine. Hundreds of vehicles are waiting to cross the border. The largest queues are observed at the border with Poland. At various crossing points to Poland, 550 cars and 83 buses are waiting. The largest bottlenecks are found at the crossing points 'Krakivets', 'Smilnytsia', 'Nyzhankovychi', and 'Shehyni'.
However, the 'Strength of Farmers' association in Moldova claims that it will block all border crossing points with Ukraine in protest against restrictions on grain imports. Farmers demand the continuation of restrictions and see a risk of falling prices for their products.
