Russia is likely to reject security guarantees for Ukraine: ISW forecast on the Kremlin's position.
According to FREEДOM:
The Kremlin is likely to reject proposals from the US and Europe
Experts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that Russia is unlikely to accept Western security guarantees for Ukraine. This was reported by the FREEДОМ publication.
Kremlin's refusal of Western guarantees
In their report, specialists emphasize that Moscow has repeatedly rejected proposals regarding the security of Ukraine, including the refusal of NATO troops' presence. They also mentioned recent statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova about the Kremlin's position.
'High-ranking Kremlin officials have repeatedly rejected Western security guarantees for Ukraine and, in particular, the presence of NATO troops within such guarantees. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov recently stated in an interview with NBC that Western countries, including the US, should not bear responsibility for Ukraine's post-war security. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, also stated on August 18 that Russia 'categorically rejects' 'any scenario that involves the appearance of a military contingent in Ukraine with the participation of NATO countries.' The Kremlin is likely to reject the proposals from the US and Europe for security guarantees similar to those discussed by American and European officials,' the ISW report says.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Western partners to expedite work on security guarantees for Ukraine. This issue remains relevant in light of the ongoing military aggression by Russia, highlighting the importance of international support and reliable security mechanisms for our country.
