Ukraine Seeks Consortiums to Address Critical Shortage of PAC-3 Missiles.
Ukraine Faces Critical PAC-3 Missile Shortage
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has highlighted a severe shortage of PAC-3 missiles, crucial for the nation's air defense. He discussed the potential formation of joint consortiums with international partners to develop anti-ballistic missiles, alongside the necessity of advancing Ukraine's own domestic projects in this field.
Ukraine's urgent need for PAC-3 missiles is driven by a record number of ballistic missile attacks recorded in January 2026. Reports indicate that Russia continues to manufacture ballistic missiles with assistance from China. Furthermore, in May 2025, Russia significantly upgraded its ballistic missiles, thereby increasing the threat level for Ukraine. This evolving threat landscape underscores the need for rapid and innovative defense solutions.
Mykhailo Fedorov stated: 'We have spoken with the president about creating joint consortiums with partners to accelerate the production of anti-ballistic missiles.'
He also emphasized that Ukraine requires a separate, dedicated project, noting that 'the mathematics is complex and requires more time.' However, he asserted that 'Ukraine must absolutely develop its own projects.'
Essential Steps to Bolster Security
In response to these challenges, Ukraine must focus on:
- developing the missile defense component of its air defense systems;
- forming joint consortiums with international partners;
- establishing its own production of anti-ballistic systems and missiles.
These measures could substantially enhance the country's security level amid the growing threat from ballistic missiles.
Fedorov's statement underscores the critical situation in Ukraine, where the threat from ballistic missiles has intensified dramatically. Partnerships with international allies and the advancement of domestic technologies could prove decisive in strengthening air defense and ensuring national security. In the context of the ongoing war and persistent escalation, investing in advanced military technology is paramount for safeguarding Ukrainian sovereignty.
