History of the station

The station was opened in 1847 as a railway station, and in the 1930s a bus station appeared nearby.

In 2007, these two transportation hubs were merged under the name Hull Paragon Interchange.

The station is designed in the Italian Renaissance style, inspired by the Palazzo Farnese in Rome.

It was visited by Queen Victoria in 1853, when the royal family stopped there.

Since then, the station has become a popular filming location, including in Agatha Christie series and 'Only Fools and Horses'.

A new bar is currently being prepared for opening for £315,000, which will replace the former ticket office.

The station is operated by TransPennine Express, providing direct connections to cities such as Manchester, Leeds, and London.

Ben Courtney, former station manager for Hull, Brough, and Selby, noted: “Hull proudly stands as the largest integrated rail and bus interchange in the North, and is a station we can all be proud of.”

Other awards

Another station that received an award is Penrith in Cumbria. It was recognized as the best small station at the National Railway Awards.

Additionally, the station will receive a £1 million upgrade as part of a borderlands agreement.

Alamy It is important to note that the recognition of Hull Paragon Interchange underscores the importance of quality passenger service and infrastructure in British railway transport. The station serves not only as an important transportation hub but also as an architectural landmark that preserves the history and cultural traditions of the country. Together with other planned upgrades for the stations, one can hope for further development of rail transport in the region.
