Latvia calls for a UN Security Council meeting over Russia's strike with the "Oreshnik" near NATO borders

According to ТСН: Latvia intends to initiate the convening of an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council in response to Russia's "barbaric attack" on Ukraine, as well as the launch of a medium-range ballistic missile near the borders of the European Union and NATO.

Latvia's Foreign Minister Baiba Braze announced this on social media. She emphasized that Russia had struck Ukraine near the EU and NATO borders, creating additional threats to regional security.

"Latvia will request the convening of an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council in response to Russia's barbaric attack against Ukraine, including the use of a medium-range ballistic missile near the EU and NATO border."

Additionally, it has been reported that on January 9, around midnight, Russia struck Lviv region for the first time during the war with a new "Oreshnik" missile. This incident sparked active discussion among experts and the public.

Thus, new attacks from Russia further exacerbate the situation in the region, threatening the security of European countries. Latvia is ready to act at the international level to draw attention to these issues and underline the importance of collective security.
