Leaders of the Quad countries condemn the war in Ukraine and call for peace
Leaders of the Quad dialogue countries on security issues, including Australia, India, Japan, and the US, have expressed deep concern over the war in Ukraine, condemned nuclear threats, and called for a just peace.
As reported by "Hvyla", this is stated in a joint statement by the leaders of the four countries published on the White House website.
The leaders of the QUAD countries emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states. They particularly drew attention to the devastating humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine, expressing deep concern about the situation.
We express our deep concern about the war in Ukraine, including the horrific and tragic humanitarian consequences. Each of us has visited Ukraine since the beginning of the war and seen it with our own eyes; we affirm the need for comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with international law, in line with the goals and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity
In addition, the leaders of the four countries support compliance with international law, respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The joint statement also notes that the war in Ukraine negatively affects global food and energy security, especially in developing and least developed countries.
In the context of this war, we share the view that the use or threat of nuclear weapons is unacceptable. We emphasize the importance of respecting international law and, in accordance with the UN Charter, reiterate that all states must refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity, sovereignty, or political independence of any state
The next Quad summit will be held in India in 2025.
The joint statement was signed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and US President Joseph Biden, who held the fourth meeting at a separate summit of the Quad leaders hosted by President Biden in Wilmington.
Recall, Biden ordered to "move heaven and earth" to help Ukraine.
