Lithuania accused Belarus of orchestrating the migration crisis
Lithuania has filed a lawsuit against Belarus at the International Court of Justice in The Hague for violating state obligations under the UN Protocol against the illegal introduction of migrants. According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the increase in the flow of illegal migrants from Belarus is due to the involvement of the Belarusian regime.
Belarusian state enterprises have increased the number of flights from Middle Eastern countries, organized visa issuance and accommodation for migrants. After arriving in Belarus, many migrants were escorted to the Lithuanian border and forced to cross it illegally, leading to tension at the border.
'Lithuania views these actions as a deliberate attempt by the Belarusian regime to use migration as a means of political pressure. Lithuania demands accountability from Belarus and compensation for the damage caused,' the statement said.
