Lithuania Demands International Action Against Russia for Targeting Ukraine's Energy Grid.
Lithuania's Appeal to the International Community
According to UATV: Lithuania has urged the international community to take concrete measures in response to Russia's systematic attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which it condemns as war crimes. Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys emphasized that these strikes must be met with tangible consequences under international law. He stressed that Ukraine urgently requires:
- financial and technical support;
- air defense systems;
- interceptor missiles.
Backing Estonia's Proposal
Lithuania also supports Estonia's call for the European Union to implement a bloc-wide ban on issuing Schengen visas to Russian citizens involved in the war against Ukraine. In line with this, Lithuania has already begun developing a model for such a prohibition. Budrys underscored that every moment of hesitation fuels Russian terror, highlighting the critical need for immediate international action. This stance reflects the Baltic states' deep concern over regional security, given their history and proximity to the conflict.
These statements from Lithuania signal a strengthening of support for Ukraine from the Baltic nations amid escalating military aggression. The calls for international sanctions and visa bans could form part of a broader European Union strategy to counter Russian aggression. Lithuania, along with other regional countries, seeks not only to ensure Ukraine's security but also to bolster its own defensive posture in the face of heightened tensions in Eastern Europe.
