Macron and Starmer confirmed support for Ukraine to Zelensky: statements of the leaders.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had important phone conversations with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding support for Ukraine and European security.
According to media reports, Zelensky mentioned that he had a great conversation with Macron. He also added that they coordinated diplomatic measures and confirmed a joint stance on ensuring security in Europe.
At an emergency summit with European and Canadian leaders, Macron expressed his opinion: 'We are convinced of the need to increase our spending on defense and security. Decisions will be made in the coming days and weeks.' Macron also emphasized that France takes responsibility for peace and security in Europe by involving Kyiv in peace processes.
Zelensky also spoke with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which they discussed the role of the UK in strengthening the defense and security of Europe. Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the support and noted that a temporary suspension of elections during wartime is acceptable.
Starmer confirmed US support in achieving stable peace in Ukraine and restraining Russia from aggression. He also noted that he and Macron plan a visit to the US soon, where they will mediate between the US and European countries.
The UK and France also expressed willingness to participate in a possible military mission in Ukraine.
