Macron is summoning European leaders for an emergency meeting in Paris
French President Emmanuel Macron is summoning European leaders for an emergency meeting in Paris on Monday.
This was reported by Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Politico writes.
'I am very pleased that President Macron has invited our leaders to Paris,' said Sikorski, adding that he expects 'very serious' discussions from European leaders regarding the challenges posed by US President Donald Trump.
Sikorski described Trump's method of action as 'testing the waters': 'You push and see what happens, and then you change your position. ... And we need to respond.' Two EU officials confirmed that the meeting will take place on Monday.
It is currently unknown whether all EU leaders will attend, or just a limited group of countries, and whether other European leaders, such as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will be invited.
A French official was unable to immediately comment on the situation. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrault, who was present on the panel with Sikorski in Munich, neither confirmed nor denied the information about the emergency summit.
Later, Sikorski reported that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will visit Paris on Monday at Macron's invitation. 'We must show our strength and unity,' Sikorski wrote on social media.
It was previously reported about a phone conversation between Rubio and Lavrov.
