Restoration of the Russian language in Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: Singer Maria Burmaka noted that Ukrainians are increasingly returning to the use of the Russian language. During the war, many people switched to Ukrainian, but now they are speaking Russian again. This, in her opinion, indicates that some citizens have 'rolled back history' because of the invasion.

"This is when, as I have already said, many people, understanding where the missiles are flying from, initially switched to the Ukrainian language, and now have rolled back history. It is one thing for a person to communicate in Russian at home, and quite another when this happens demonstratively in public space."

In Burmaka's opinion, many people are simply waiting for the developments, not supporting Ukraine. She noted that these individuals try to demonstrate their attachment to the Russian language, unwilling to support Ukraine's victory.

"Then you begin to understand how many actually have 'waiters' or 'those who wait'... These are all those who sit and simply watch how it all ends. They do not wish for Ukraine's victory, they are simply frozen and looking at where the pendulum will swing. And just in case, they train their Russian, showing to those around them that they have not forgotten 'Pushkin's language'."

Burmaka emphasized that no one is pressuring Russian-speaking citizens, but they often pressure Ukrainian speakers themselves. She considers it important to protect the right to speak Russian, but not to forget about the language rights of Ukrainians.

"Some explain their Russian by saying they do not want to be pressured. But this is not true. No one is actually putting pressure. It is the bearers of the language of our enemy who pressure others. They are the intolerant ones. And they have never been tolerant. They are the main lever of pressure on all Ukrainian speakers. And now such people are starting to raise their heads. It pains me to think that they do not believe that Ukraine will remain Ukrainian. But the existence of such people is no longer just a pity, it is a threat."

Maria Burmaka expressed her concern about the influence of the Russian-speaking population on the language situation in Ukraine. The singer called for attentiveness and caution, emphasizing the negative impact of certain Russian speakers on Ukrainian society.

These words are important as they highlight the pressing issue of the language question in Ukraine, especially in conditions of war. Today, it is essential not only to preserve linguistic identity but also to limit the influence that can undermine national unity at such a difficult time for the country.
