March 14 Attack on Kyiv: All Cruise Missiles Shot Down by Air Defense, but Casualties Reported.
Massive Missile and Drone Strike Targets Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: On March 14, Russia launched a large-scale assault using missiles and drones against Kyiv and the surrounding region, resulting in four fatalities. During this offensive, Russian forces deployed 68 missiles of various types along with 430 attack drones. The attack also impacted Ukraine's railway infrastructure, with one drone striking a commuter train in the Kharkiv area.
Details from the Ukrainian Air Force
According to Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat, approximately 500 aerial assault assets were used in the attack. These included:
- ballistic missiles such as the 'Iskander-M' and 'S-400'
- two 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles
Ihnat also noted that the 'Patriot' system successfully intercepted the majority of the ballistic missiles.
“We achieved a 100% interception rate for cruise missiles today. It is truly rare to have all missiles like the 'Kh-101' or 'Kalibr' successfully shot down,” said Yurii Ihnat.
This attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict in the region and the escalating situation in Ukraine. It underscores the need for continued readiness and response by Ukrainian defense forces against aggressor threats. Tensions between Ukraine and Russia remain high, and such strikes could influence strategic decisions for both Ukraine and the international community regarding support for Kyiv in its fight for sovereignty.
