Over 110 Russian vessels hit in Ukraine’s largest naval campaign in 50 years.
Strike series targets Russian ships in the Sea of Azov
According to UATV: Ukraine’s defense forces have conducted a series of strikes against Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov, marking the most extensive naval campaign seen in half a century. Over a span of nine days, Ukrainian troops successfully hit more than 110 Russian ships. In terms of scale and attack density, this operation has surpassed the so-called 'tanker war' fought between Iran and Iraq during the 1980s.
The strikes specifically targeted the steering cabins and pipelines of Russian vessels. While the ships have not been sunk, they have been rendered unable to continue sailing. The destroyed tankers were carrying Russian oil and petroleum products in violation of international sanctions. The operation’s core objective is to disrupt the supply of fuel, ammunition, and other cargo to Russian forces stationed in occupied territories.
Grain export routes redirected
In response to the attacks, Russian authorities have redirected some grain exports away from ports in the Sea of Azov.
Robert 'Madyar' Brovdy: 'We are intensively destroying Russia’s shadow fleet in the Sea of Azov, cutting off supply lines to Crimea and the military group in Ukraine’s occupied regions.'This activity underscores the growing tension in the region and the impact of Ukrainian forces on enemy maritime operations.
This campaign signals a new phase in Ukraine’s military strategy, aimed at weakening Russia’s resources in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. Successful strikes on Russian vessels could significantly shift the regional balance of power by reducing the enemy’s ability to supply occupied territories. Such actions may also trigger fresh international reactions and lead to tighter sanctions against Russia.
