According to UATV: On May 28, 2023, Russian forces launched a sweeping attack across multiple Ukrainian regions, including Odesa, Poltava, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. The strikes caused casualties and damaged critical infrastructure. This wave of violence came amid ongoing hostilities that have repeatedly targeted civilian areas.
Impact of the Attacks
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, three people sustained injuries. A medical official, Oleksandr Hanzha, reported:
“A 38-year-old man was hospitalized in moderate condition. A 69-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man will receive outpatient treatment.”
In Odesa, a drone struck a residential building, shattering windows in neighboring homes. Oleh Kiper stated:
“A UAV hit a private house and an infrastructure facility. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.”
In the Poltava region, debris from an enemy drone fell, but details on potential victims remain unclear. In Zaporizhzhia, Russian troops carried out 689 strikes across 40 settlements, wounding two women.
Nine settlements in the Kharkiv region came under fire, leaving two men injured. In Kherson, 42 settlements were shelled, resulting in one fatality in Druzhkivka and 15 wounded. Vadym Filashkin confirmed:
“One resident of Druzhkivka was killed, and three others in the region were injured.”
Additionally, Zaporizhzhia recorded 48 reports of damage to infrastructure and homes. Ivan Fedorov noted:
“48 reports of damage to infrastructure and housing were received.”Oleksandr Prokudin added:
“Russian forces struck social infrastructure and residential areas, damaging 16 apartment buildings and 8 private houses.”
Weapons used in the assault included:
- 7 guided aerial bombs
- 3 ‘Geran-2’ type drones
- 2 FPV drones
- 18 drones of undetermined type
These attacks underscore the growing danger to Ukrainian civilians and the severe toll on infrastructure.
The late May strikes highlight Russia’s continued aggression, leading to more civilian casualties and widespread destruction. The increasing intensity of attacks on residential zones and social facilities signals a dangerous escalation that has alarmed the international community.
