According to The Sun: Key railway station serving around 10,000 passengers daily will reopen next week after a £70 million refurbishment.

These works have caused significant inconvenience for 300,000 passengers using the station each month.

Railway leaders consider the reopening of the station a 'significant step'

However, upon reopening, only three of the six platforms will be operational.

This decision was made to continue works on the major Transpennine route upgrade project.

No trains have been running at Huddersfield Station in West Yorkshire since August 30.

Railway leaders view the reopening of Huddersfield Station on Monday, September 29, as a 'significant step' in the ongoing Transpennine route upgrade.

Network Rail stated that the closure was necessary to reschedule the tracks and platforms.

Modified Structure

This process modifies the station structure and allows for running more trains with greater capacity for a 'greener and more reliable' rail transport, according to information from Network Rail.

The works will also provide further upgrades at the busy station, including the restoration of tea rooms designated as grade II listed.

At the time of the station reopening, a second phase of modernization will continue in a closed area to allow construction teams to complete work on the platforms, canopies, and tracks.

Once completed, Huddersfield will be able to accommodate longer trains with greater capacity.

In the next phase of upgrades, some services may be limited.

Stations such as Cottingley, Morley, Batley, Ravensthorpe, Brighouse, Halifax, Low Moor, and Bradford Interchange will not have direct trains to Huddersfield, meaning passengers may need to change trains during their journeys.

Check Timetables

Passengers are advised to check timetables before traveling.

Paul Sumner, Senior Sponsor for TRU, noted: 'We are looking forward to the reopening of Huddersfield Station at the end of this month, but we know customers will notice some changes.

'This includes arrivals and departures from different platforms and some temporary service changes.
'We want to thank customers for their patience as this upgrade is a once-in-a-generation project, and we advise everyone traveling through this area to plan their journeys in advance.'

Huddersfield Station has already completed part of the restoration works that began in November 2023, with the terminal canopy restoration completed in April.

The station modernization program is set to be completed by 2027.
