Meloni held talks with the Chinese leader
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during her visit to China. The talks were about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and bilateral relations between the countries.
According to the Italian government, Meloni and Xi "shared positive developments in relations between Italy and China" and emphasized the importance of "balanced, mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual trust".
Priority issues of the international agenda were also discussed, particularly the risks of further escalation in the Middle East. In her speech, Meloni noted that China is an important interlocutor to ensure stability and peace in the world.
She also emphasized Italy's potential in developing China's relations with the European Union and creating balanced trade relations.
This was Meloni's first visit to China as Italy's Prime Minister, but she had already met Xi Jinping in 2022.
