The mayor of Ostrog, who listened to Russian songs while drunk and beat a woman, has been removed from office.
Members of the Ostrog City Council voted for the dismissal of the mayor of Ostrog, Yuriy Yahodka. He was accused of listening to Russian songs and beating a woman. 25 deputies voted for the dismissal, one abstained, and eight did not participate in the vote.
The initiators of the dismissal argue that Yahodka did not fulfill his duties as mayor and did not control the activities of structural subdivisions and communal enterprises.
The mayor apologized for beating the woman, which occurred while he was in a state of alcoholic intoxication. The woman stated that Yahodka sang Russian songs in the library and aggressively attacked her after she made a remark. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under part 1 of article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The mayor has held the position of head of the Ostrog community since 2020. Previously, he served as a deputy of the Ostrog District Council, head of the Ostrog District State Administration, and village head. He may face a fine or be assigned corrective labor.
